An Unusual Product Inquiry

The connection began when the hospital’s procurement team contacted Surgsci regarding laparoscopic trocars for gynecological surgery. Attached to the inquiry was an unusual detail: a black-and-white copy of Surgsci’s English product catalogue.

Further communication revealed that the request had come from Professor Hans Tinneberg, who was conducting clinical work at the hospital. After learning about BalloonPass™ through a recommendation from a European colleague, Professor Tinneberg used the printed catalogue to help the hospital identify the product.

Feedback from the Operating Room

Following delivery, BalloonPass™ was introduced into gynecological laparoscopic procedures. After the first operation, Professor Tinneberg commented that the trocars had “proved themselves” in clinical use.

During a subsequent discussion, he shared further observations about the product. Even before learning about its specific design features, he had noticed the smooth insertion of the trocar into the abdomen. He also highlighted its fixation performance: the trocar remained securely positioned throughout the procedure without noticeable displacement or slippage.

BalloonPass™ features an ultra-thin balloon approximately 0.03 mm in thickness. Once positioned, the inflated balloon works with the abdominal wall to support stable cannula fixation. Professor Hans Tinneberg is the Founding President of the European Endometriosis League and previously served as Chairman of the German Society of Gynecological Endoscopy and Director of Gynecology at University Hospital Giessen. He is currently contributing to the development of an endometriosis and gynecological oncology center in Luzhou.

During the exchange, Professor Tinneberg shared insights into clinical workflows, surgeon training, and possible refinements to surgical techniques. Using hand-drawn sketches, he explained how instruments and standardized approaches could better support surgeons in their daily practice.
